Stonehenge

Stonehenge is one of the most impressive ancient monuments in the world. There has been so much said and written about it over the years, some of which are changing our views on it. However, there are some clear facts about it.

Firstly the site has been acive for thousands of years and the stones that we see today were the last evolution of it. Over the centuries, wooden structures were replaced by a series of stone circles until we have the present structure. It is also not the only moniument in the area as there are others including Woodhenge 2 miles north that were all believed to be part of the same

Stonehenge is on a scale you can only imagine once you have seen it. The current stones are around 13 feet tall and were possibly brought from 25 miles away and at a time when they would have to be dragged or pulled by people and horses. The importance to the people who built this whether religous or cultural must have been considerable given the amount of effort and time involved.
